Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez outclasses Avni Yildirim to retain WBC, WBA super middleweight titles by knockout

Miami : Saul "Canelo" Alvarez demolished Turkey's Avni Yildirim in three rounds to retain his WBC and WBA super middleweight titles by knockout on Saturday. Mexico's Alvarez dominated underdog Yildirim from the opening bell and sent the Turk crashing to the canvas with a crisp left-right combination in the third round at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium. The outclassed Yildirim then failed to emerge from his corner for the fourth round as Alvarez once again demonstrated why he is regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing. "I wanted to have a great fight here and I did what I had to do," Alvarez said. "I needed a knockout and that's what I did. It doesn't matter if they're taller, if they've got more reach, or they've got a good trainer. I came to do my job, I came here to win." Alvarez, who improved to 55-1-2 with 37 knockouts, had got back into the ring on Saturday a little over two months after beating Britain&#

India vs England: Nathan Lyon slams Motera pitch critics, says 'everyone seems to start crying' when the ball starts spinning

Melbourne:  Australia spinner Nathan Lyon is baffled by all the hullabaloo over the Motera pitch, saying "everyone seems to start crying" when the ball starts spinning but no one speaks out when teams are bundled out for low scores on seaming tracks. The Motera track received a lot of flak from some quarters, including former skippers Michael Vaughan, Andrew Strauss, Alastair Cook, after England were bowled out for 112 and 81 during their 10-wicket loss in the third Test against India on Thursday. However, Lyon gave a thumbs up to the curator. "We play on seaming wickets around the world and get bowled out for 47, 60. Nobody ever says a thing (about the pitch). But as soon as it starts spinning, everyone in the world seems to start crying about it," Lyon was quoted as saying by The West Australian . "I don't get it. I'm all for it, it was entertaining." Lyon, who had scripted an incredible journey from being a pitch curator to one of the grea

NBA: Mavs snap Nets’ winning streak; Joel Embiid’s 42 points in vain as 76ers lose to Cavaliers

Los Angeles : Luka Doncic scored 27 points to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 115-98 NBA victory in Brooklyn Saturday, snapping the short-handed Nets' eight-game winning streak. James Harden scored 29 points for the Nets but ran out of steam late as he carried the load in the absence of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Durant missed his seventh game with a strained left hamstring while Irving sat out to rest his surgicially repaired right shoulder. Harden had just four points in the second half, sitting out most of the fourth quarter in which Dallas led by as many as 22. The Mavs were buoyed by the return of Kristaps Porzingis, who scored 18 points in his first contest since missing three games with back trouble. "We played like a team today," said Doncic, who was able to celebrate the victory on the eve of his 22nd birthday. "They have an amazing team," added Doncic, who added that even with two stars out the Mavs knew the Nets remained a dangerous adversary

India women vs South Africa women: Sune Luus to lead visitors; Dane Van Niekerk, Chloe Tryon set to miss out

Lucknow : Sune Luus will lead South Africa women's team against India in the upcoming limited over series as regular skipper. Dane Van Niekerk and Chloe Tryon will again miss the assignment due to injuries, the country's cricket board (CSA) said on Sunday. The visitors arrived in India on Saturday and are currently serving a six-day quarantine period. They will train for two days before facing India in the series-opening ODI on 7 March. South Africa retained most of the players in the 18-member squad which had won the ODI and T20 series against Pakistan last month. Van Niekerk and Chloe Tryon were not part of that series. Pacer Masabata Klaas is the only one to miss out after picking up an injury at the last moment. Sune Luus had captained the side in the last series and will continue to do so with Van Niekerk and Tryon yet to recover from lower-back injuries. "It is really exciting to finally have this tour confirmed and announce our squad that will do duty here in I

ISL 2020-21: Mumbai City FC treating ATK Mohun Bagan clash like a final, says CY Goddard

Mumbai: Mumbai City FC may have already breezed into the playoffs of this season’s Indian Super League, but Cy Goddard believes that the team need to beat ATK Mohun Bagan in their ‘massive’ game on Sunday , which will decide which team ends the league stage at the top of the standings. “This game is like a final (for us). Whoever wins this game, wins the league. We’ve really have nothing to lose. “When we started the season, our ambition was to come first in the league. We really want to win this. It’s a massive game for us. And for them as well,” Goddard told Firstpost . “Our objective wasn’t just to reach the playoffs. It was to win the league. I wouldn’t say we’re happy by making it to the playoffs, we want to win the league.” The two teams have met once before in this season, with Mumbai eking out a 1-0 victory. The circumstances foreshadowing both clashes couldn’t be more different. Back in January, when the two sides met, Mumbai were at the top of the standings with ATK Mohun

Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez enjoys solid return at Winter Cup

Indianapolis: The nerves were there. They were unavoidable, really. Yet rather than greet them with anxiety or fear as she did the last time she stood on the competition floor, Laurie Hernandez embraced them. Yes, it's been more than four years — a lifetime and then some in women's gymnastics — since she walked off the podium at the 2016 Olympics with a star-making smile and a pair of medals around her neck. Her journey since leaving Brazil included dabbling in the trappings that came with newfound stardom, moving from New Jersey to Los Angeles and parting with a coach currently serving a 5-year suspension for abusive behaviour. Oh, and then there's the dash of skepticism about whether her comeback was legit. Yet all of it faded into the background on Saturday at the Winter Cup in Indianapolis. The electric smile — one she insists is no longer choreographed but sincere — returned. And while her performance, a fifth on balance beam and 11th on floor exercise after she wa

Former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez tests COVID-19 positive in Qatar

Madrid: Former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martínez has tested positive for the coronavirus. Martínez said on social media on Saturday she is in quarantine at a hospital in Doha after the positive test on arrival in Qatar. Martínez is the coach of former world No. 1 Garbiñe Muguruza, who is set to play at the Qatar Open from Monday. The 48-year-old Martínez said she was experiencing "mild symptoms" of COVID-19. "I hope that I can soon be back on this swing of the Middle East tournaments," Martínez wrote in Spanish. "For now, I will be working via videocalls and connected online constantly with Garbiñe." Martínez won Wimbledon in 1994 and helped Spain win five Fed Cups during the 1990s. United States Soccer formally scraps 'no kneel' anthem policy after vote

Los Angeles: United States Soccer formally scrapped a controversial policy banning players from kneeling during the national anthem on Saturday following a vote of members at the federation's annual meeting. US Soccer's board of directors repealed the policy last year but the decision required confirmation by the full membership of the ruling body. At Saturday's meeting, the board's decision to scrap the rule was backed by 71% of voters, with 29% against. Explaining the decision to repeal the policy last year, US Soccer said the rule was wrong and reflected a failure of the federation to address the concerns of Black people and other minorities. The rule ordering players to "stand respectfully" for the US national anthem was introduced in 2017. It came after US women's star Megan Rapinoe took a knee for the anthem at a 2016 international in a gesture of solidarity with former NFL star Colin Kaepernick. The USSF faced mounting pressure to review the

ISL 2020-21: Mumbai City FC, ATK Mohun Bagan promise mouth-watering clash with League Winners Shield at stake

Even the fixture makers would not have guessed that they were slotting essentially a final for the League Winners Shield and AFC Champions League Group Stage spot by making Mumbai City FC vs ATK Mohun Bagan (ATKMB) the last league game of the 2020-21 season in the Indian Super League (ISL). Mumbai City and ATKMB were favourites from the start of the season. A match between Mumbai and ATKMB is not only one of the most high-profile contests of this season but would remain the same for many upcoming editions. But the Sunday contest has a lot more running on it than just being a clash between two favourites. When Mumbai put in a 12-game unbeaten run, who would be the League Winners Shield champion seemed like a foregone conclusion. But the league being true to its nature and Antonio Habas and his side being honest to their credentials have managed a comeback worthy of applause and one which makes the Sunday game a winner-takes-it-all contest. Scenarios and recent form ATKMB have 40 poi

Selector George Bailey insists Aaron Finch will be Australia's T20 World Cup captain

Melbourne: Selector George Bailey Sunday insisted under-fire Aaron Finch would be Australia's skipper at this year's Twenty20 World Cup, calling mounting criticism of his leadership and form "white noise". Finch's scores of one and 12 in their opening two games against New Zealand last week, coupled with his failure to fire in the recent Big Bash League, has sparked debate over whether he is the right man for the job. But Bailey told the Melbourne Herald Sun there was no doubt in his mind the 34-year-old opener would be leading the side in India in October. "He's got a terrific average, he's the captain of this side and he'll be the captain of this side at the World Cup," said Bailey, one of three selectors alongside Trevor Hohns and national coach Justin Langer. "It's just complete white noise for me," he added of the criticism. Doubts around Finch have been raging, led by former selector Mark Waugh. "His job is t

ISL 2020-21: Mumbai City aim for AFC Champions League spot as they clash with ATK Mohun Bagan

Bambolim : Mumbai City FC will be eyeing three points to finish at the top and grab a spot in the AFC Champions League when they clash with table-toppers ATK Mohun Bagan in the final game of the ISL league stage on Sunday. The contest at the GMC Stadium, between two of the most consistent teams of this season, will see Mumbai City and ATK Mohun Bagan battle it out for their first League Winners Shield crown. While Mumbai City held a comfortable lead at the summit in the first half of the season, an unexpected slump since January saw them relinquish their position to their rivals from Kolkata. With one last game to go, it's all or nothing for the Islanders. Only a win could see them grab the top spot alongside a spot in the Champions League. Anything less than three points, and that place will be taken by ATKMB. During the last meeting between the two sides, Bartholomew Ogbeche's goal proved to be the difference. However, Mumbai coach Sergio Lobera said Sunday's match wi

Serie A: Cristiano Ronaldo scores but Juventus held to 1-1 in Verona, remain third

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 19th goal this campaign but champions Juventus had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Hellas Verona in Serie A on Saturday. The draw gives leaders Inter Milan the chance to pull 10 points clear of Juventus when they play mid-table Genoa at the San Siro on Sunday. Juventus are third and three points adrift of second-placed AC Milan who travel to Roma, two points behind the champions in fourth, on Sunday. "We managed to take the lead, which was the hardest part, it's a pity not being able to hold it," said Juve coach Andrea Pirlo. Pirlo's side paid for their many absences and a redesigned defence with Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini out injured and Danilo suspended. Also missing were Juan Cuadrado, Arthur and Paulo Dybala to injury with Alvaro Morata recovering from a viral infection. "We lacked experienced players, we had many youngsters on the pitch and there are details that they don't understand," continued Pirlo. &q

ISL 2020-21: Straight shootout for final playoff berth between FC Goa and Hyderabad FC

Fatorda : FC Goa and Hyderabad FC will fight it out for the final playoff berth in the Indian Super League when they face off in a decisive game for both sides at the Fatorda Stadium on Sunday. After 19 games, these 90 minutes will decide the fate of both clubs who have stayed in the reckoning all season. Goa are in pole position and need just a point to reach the final four, while Hyderabad require a win to make the next stage. However, coach Juan Ferrando stated that his team won't play for just a point. "Every game you have pressure. The mentality of this club is to get three points every game. Of course tomorrow we need three points, it's because the mentality of this club is high," he said. Goa has been one of the most feared sides in the competition. While their attacking prowess has earned them crucial points, their defensive abilities are questionable, with the club conceding 23 goals. The Gaurs are on a 12-match unbeaten run and scoring isn't a probl

Bundesliga: RB Leipzig come from two goals down to win, keep pace with Bayern Munich

A last-gasp Alexander Sorloth goal sealed RB Leipzig's dramatic 3-2 comeback win at home to Borussia Moenchengladbach on Saturday and kept them in the thick of the Bundesliga title race. Leipzig fought back with second-half goals by Christopher Nkunku and Yussuf Poulsen before Sorloth's winning header in the 93rd minute after Gladbach had led 2-0 at half-time. "We'll try everything to keep the Bundesliga exciting," said Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann. "We have to keep the momentum. It was an extremely important victory in terms of the table. "We didn't look good when we conceded the goals, but were incredibly strong in the second half." The victory keeps second-placed Leipzig two points behind leaders Bayern Munich, who earlier romped to a 5-1 home win over Cologne. Gladbach were in complete control at half-time after Jonas Hofmann netted an early penalty and Marcus Thuram used his shoulder to guide the ball into the net from a Breel Embo

NBA: Jimmy Butler stars in Heat’s 124-116 win over Jazz; Celtics snap losing streak by beating Pacers

Los Angeles : Jimmy Butler scored a season high 33 points as the Miami Heat beat the NBA-leading Utah Jazz 124-116 on Friday to extend their winning streak to five games. Butler also added 10 rebounds and eight assists to lead giant-killers Miami, who have toppled the NBA's two most recent champions in the past week — the Toronto Raptors and the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers. "I don't want to say that we're good yet," Butler said. "We've got so much more that we can be better at. Myself, anybody, I don't want us to get complacent and think that we're cool." Goran Dragic scored 26 points, centre Bam Adebayo had 19 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in the win. "We just tried to take away their easy shots," Dragic said. "And we did." Donovan Mitchell shot 11-of-26 from the field and finished with 30 points for the Jazz, who dropped to 26-7 overall but still have the best record in the NBA. The Jazz also got 1

NBA: Injured Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant to remain sidelined through All-Star break

New York : Brooklyn Nets star forward Kevin Durant will remain sidelined through the NBA All-Star break with a left hamstring strain, the team said Friday. Durant has missed six games with the injury, the Nets originally saying on 14 February that he would be sidelined for at least two. Coach Steve Nash had predicted this week that he would return before the All-Star break begins on 5 March, but an MRI exam prompted them to revise his return timeline. "The latest images provided a clearer picture of the hamstring and while we are confident that Durant will return at full strength, this extra recovery time will allow him to perform at the level at which he has been playing this season once he returns," the Nets said in a statement. Durant, who is averaging 29 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists, will be re-assessed following the All-Star break, which runs from 5-10 March. Durant had been slated to captain one of the All-Star teams against a team led by Los Angeles Lakers

Premier League: Gareth Bale 'happier than ever', says Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho

London : Jose Mourinho claims Gareth Bale is "happier than ever" as the Tottenham forward tries to salvage his troubled second spell at the Premier League club. Bale has been dogged by fitness problems and poor form since returning to Tottenham on a season-long loan from Real Madrid. But the Wales captain is starting to show signs of his old self after shining in the Europa League matches against Wolfsberger recently. He could make a rare Premier League start against Burnley on Sunday after Tottenham boss Mourinho said he is playing with freedom again after the difficult end to his spell in Madrid, where he won the Champions League four times but was frozen out by boss Zinedine Zidane. "I think the mental is always a consequence of the physical. If a player feels great, if he is playing 100 percent and if the feelings are all good, there are no psychological problems or fears or barriers," Mourinho said. "When you have little worries and especially when yo

European football matchday: Manchester City face upbeat West Ham; depleted Juventus travel to Hellas Verona

A look at what’s happening in European football on Saturday: England Manchester City holds a 10-point advantage over Manchester United and Leicester as the Premier League leader plays at a West Ham side unusually elevated in fourth place. Aston Villa sits in eighth place ahead of its trip to Elland Road, a point ahead of Leeds. Brighton heads to West Bromwich in 16th place and only four points above the relegation zone after a first loss in seven league games against Crystal Palace. West Brom is 11 points adrift of safety in next-to-last place with Sam Allardyce having won only one of his 12 games in charge. Newcastle has slipped to only three points above the bottom three going into the late game against Wolverhampton. Spain Barcelona visits Sevilla with third place in the league at stake. Sevilla beat Barcelona 2-0 this month in the Copa del Rey, and four days after this league clash the two will see each other yet again in the return leg of their cup semi-final. Barcelona is un

India vs England: Michael Vaughan slams BCCI for poor pitches, says ICC allowing hosts to get away

London: Former England captain Michael Vaughan has slammed the BCCI for producing pitches that are not deemed good enough for Test cricket and said the more India is allowed to "get away with whatever they wish", the more "toothless" the ICC will look. England on Thursday suffered an embarrassing 10-wicket defeat in the third Test against India on a spin-friendly Motera track to go down 1-2 in the four-match series. The match ended inside two days with the pitch drawing flak from former players like Vaughan, though batting legend Sunil Gavaskar credited the Indian spinners rather than blaming the surface. "The longer powerful countries like India are allowed to get away with it the more toothless the ICC will look," Vaughan wrote in the Daily Telegraph . "The governing body are allowing India to produce whatever they wish and it is Test cricket that is getting hurt," he said. "It is a real concern for the game that we have seen India

India vs England: Chris Woakes leaves tour as per rotation policy without playing a game

Ahmedabad: England all-rounder Chris Woakes has left the Test tour of India without playing a match as part of the ECB's rotation policy. The-31-year-old, who was with the England squads for the tours of South Africa, Sri Lanka and India, has not featured in any match. He last played in an ODI against Australia in September last year. The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed that Woakes has returned home as per pre-arranged plan. England's much-debated rotation policy has drawn a lot of flak from several former players, including Kevin Pietersen and Ian Bell. The rotation policy saw wicketkeeper Jos Buttler and all-rounder Moeen Ali return home after the first and second Test against India respectively. Batsman Jonny Bairstow and pacer Mark Wood, who missed out on the opening two fixtures, joined the squad for the remainder of the series. England are currently trailing 1-2 in the four-match series with the fourth and final Test slated to begin here from Thursday.

West Indies call up veterans Chris Gayle, Fidel Edwards for T20Is against Sri Lanka

St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda : Chris Gayle was called into the West Indies Twenty20 squad on Friday for the first time in two years as the 41-year-old eyes a place in the World Cup later this year. Gayle, one of cricket's global superstars, was named in the 14-man squad for the three-game series against Sri Lanka which starts in Antigua on Wednesday. The charismatic Gayle wants to help steer West Indies to a successful defence of their World Twenty20 title in India in October and November. The Jamaican opening batsman played the last of his 58 T20 internationals against England on home turf in March 2019. He has made 1,627 runs in the format with a highest score of 117 at an average of over 32. "As we build towards the defence of the T20 World Cup, the opportunity is being taken to determine our best team and squad as we go forward," said chief selector Roger Harper. "Chris Gayle has performed very well in recent tournaments and the selection panel thin

Ligue 1: Jorge Sampaoli named new coach of Marseille, signs contract until June 2023

Marseille: Marseille have appointed Jorge Sampaoli as their new coach, the troubled French club's American owner Frank McCourt announced in a statement on Friday. Sampaoli, a much-travelled Argentine, replaces Andre Villas-Boas who was suspended on 2 February. McCourt, who promised "profound changes" at the club, also replaced president Jacques-Henri Eyraud, who has become a target of fan discontent, with sporting director Pablo Longoria. McCourt said Eyraud would be joining the club's supervisory board. Marseille, second when last season was cut short, are seventh this season, 20 points behind leaders Lille. "This is a new chapter for Olympique de Marseille, and I am personally committed to making it a success," McCourt said in the statement. "I have entrusted the presidency of the club to Pablo. His experience as sports director and talent scout is matched only by his love of the game. His main priority will be to put football back at the heart

Sale of WNBA's Atlanta Dream approved; former star Renee Montgomery part of new ownership group

Former US senator Kelly Loeffler's controversial stint as a WNBA team owner ended Friday as the women's league and NBA board of governors approved the sale of the Atlanta Dream. Larry Gottesdiener, chairman of the Massachusetts-based real estate private equity firm Northland Investment Corporation, heads the three-member investment group taking control of the team which also includes Northland president Suzanne Abair and former Dream star Renee Montgomery. Montgomery becomes the first former player to become both an owner and executive of a WNBA team. "With the unanimous WNBA and NBA votes, today marks a new beginning for the Atlanta Dream organization and we are very pleased to welcome Larry Gottesdiener and Suzanne Abair to the WNBA," WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert said. "I admire their passion for women's basketball, but more importantly, have been impressed with their values. I am also thrilled that former WNBA star Renee Montgomery will be joining

ISL 2020-21: SC East Bengal and Odisha FC look to end season on winning note

Bambolim:  Languishing at the bottom half of the table, both SC East Bengal and Odisha FC will look to end their campaign at the Indian Super League on a high when they clash at the GMC Stadium here on Saturday. While Odisha lie at the very bottom of the table, East Bengal haven't fared much better and are ninth. However, ending the season with a convincing win could provide some relief to both sets of long-suffering supporters. Robbie Fowler's side were always pegged down by the inability of their forwards to convert possession into goals. Bright Enobakhare remains the only striker to have netted this season and SCEB lie at the very bottom of the goals scored list. The club was also let down by the failure of their Indian forwards to fire. Despite boasting big names like Jeje Lalpekhlua, CK Vineeth and Balwant Singh, Fowler got zero shots on target from the trio. Odisha has had similar woes throughout the season. Except for Diego Mauricio, no other player stepped up in t

Cairo : The Indian trio of Mairaj Ahmed Khan, Angad Vir Singh Bajwa and Gurjoat Khangura won the bronze medal in the men's skeet team event at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup. The Indians beat the Kazakhstan team of David Pochivalov, Eduard Yechshenko and Alexandr Mukhamediyev 6-2 in the bronze medal match on the third competition day of the International Shooting Sport Federation tournament. The trio reached the bronze medal match when they combined to shoot a score of 491 after the qualification stage comprising seven rounds of 25 shots each on Friday evening. They could have made it to the finals too, but lost a shoot-off to the Russians 6-5. Bajwa was the star of the bronze medal match, hitting all his 16 targets. Russia won the gold medal, beating the Czech Republic 6-0 in the finals. The Indian women's team, comprising Ganemat Sekhon, Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Karttiki Singh Shaktawat, also made it to the bronze medal match, but lost out to the Kazakhs narrowly with the final

Bundesliga: Josh Sargent leads charge as Werder Bremen end Eintracht Frankfurt’s unbeaten run

Berlin : Josh Sargent helped Werder Bremen end Eintracht Frankfurt’s unbeaten start to the year with the winning goal in a bad-tempered 2-1 defeat for the Bundesliga’s in-form team on Friday. The United States forward scored one goal, had another ruled out, and saw another goal he set up ruled out on a busy night for the video referee. Sargent’s winner in the 62nd minute was given by VAR despite looking offside in TV replays. Sargent didn’t celebrate after scoring as he seemed to believe he was just offside for Maximilian Eggestein’s pass. But the goal was awarded, giving Sargent his third score in the Bundesliga and fifth overall this season. He previously scored at Frankfurt on 31 October and at Hertha Berlin on 23 January but had not at home in any competition since last season’s Bundesliga finale in June against Cologne. Sargent’s goal meant the end of Frankfurt’s 11-game unbeaten run in the league since 11 December. Frankfurt previously won eight from their nine Bundesliga gam

Wales manager Ryan Giggs has bail extended following arrest on suspicion of assault

London: Wales manager Ryan Giggs had his bail extended on Friday after he was arrested on suspicion of assault. Former Manchester United star Giggs was arrested and later bailed in November after a row with Public Relations worker Kate Greville. Police were seen parked outside Giggs' home in Worsley, Greater Manchester, in November following reports of a disturbance involving the 47-year-old and his "on-off girlfriend" Greville. In a statement on Friday, a Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "A 46-year-old man (now aged 47) arrested on suspicion of section 39 common assault and section 47 assault in November 2020 has had his bail extended until Saturday May 1. "This relates to an incident reported to police at 10.05pm on Sunday November 1 2020, on Chatsworth Road, Worsley. "A file remains with the CPS and a decision is expected in due course." Giggs denied all allegations of assault made against him and is co-operating with the police inve

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel reveals PSG's Champions League loss to Manchester United left him in 'a dark place'

London: Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed he was left in a "dark place" after Manchester United knocked Paris Saint Germain out of the Champions League during his time in charge of the French club. Tuchel has a chance to avenge that painful loss against United when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side visit Stamford Bridge in a crucial Premier League clash on Sunday. That will be the fifth time in just over two years that Tuchel has faced United. The 47-year-old still has the mental scars from PSG's 2019 meltdown against United. After a 2-0 victory at Old Trafford, PSG were left stunned at Parc des Princes three weeks later when they conceded a penalty in stoppage-time to suffer a 3-1 defeat and exit the last 16 on away goals. "I can be very honest, after that match I was two days in a very dark place and I can tell you I was not able to speak to anybody and to think about anything else than this defeat," Tuchel said. "That maybe was the worst de

LaLiga: Athletic Bilbao draw at Levante before their Copa del Rey semi-final

Barcelona : Athletic Bilbao drew at Levante 1-1 in the Spanish league on Friday, five days before they meet again to decide which team advances to the final of the Copa del Rey. Roger Marti scored his 10th goal of the season for Levante after the striker converted a 34-minute penalty following Unai Nunez's foul of Jorge de Frutos in the area. Raul Garcia equalised in the 56th from a penalty conceded by Nikola Vukcekic’s foul of Alex Berenguer. The stalemate left Levante in eighth place and Bilbao in ninth. On Thursday, the two will meet for a third time in three weeks when Levante again host Bilbao in the return leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final. The first leg at San Mames Stadium stadium ended 1-1.
