IPL Highlights, KKR vs LSG, Full Cricket Score: Lucknow defeat Kolkata by 1 run, clinch playoff berth

KKR vs LSG LIVE Cricket Score: Rinku Singh remains unbeaten on 67 off 33 balls, nearly guiding Kolkata Knight Riders home to another miraculous victory with a flurry of fours and sixes in the death overs as Lucknow Super Giants pull off a thrilling one-run win to become the third team to enter the IPL 2023 playoffs.

Kolkata lost wickets in a heap after Venkatesh Iyer and Jason Roy got them off to a flier, going from 61 for no loss in the sixth over to 120 for five in the 16th, with their scoring-rate taking a major hit in the middle overs. Things got worse for the Knight Riders in the 18th over when Shardul Thakur and Sunil Narine were dismissed in the same over.

Rinku, however, would bring Kolkata back in the chase by smashing Naveen-ul-Haq for three consecutive fours and a six in the penultimate over, leaving the home team needing 21 to win off the last six. Yash Thakur kept it tidy in the first three deliveries of the final over, conceding just three.

Needing three maximums to seal another memorable win for Kolkata, Rinku could manage only two while collecting a four off the penultimate ball as Lucknow pulled off another final-over escape after their thrilling five-run win against Mumbai Indians earlier this week.

KKR vs LSG toss and preview: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) went with an unchanged lineup after opting to field against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their final home game of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL).

While KKR were unchanged for the crucial fixture at the Eden Gardens, LSG brought Karan Sharma and Krishnappa Gowtham in place of Deepak Hooda and Swapnil Singh.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will aim to seal their qualification for the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs when they take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens on Saturday.

KKR, too, will aim to keep their playoff hopes marginally alive, for which they will have to defeat LSG convincingly in the second game of the Saturday double-header while hoping other results in the Sunday double-header also favour them.

Lucknow will be sporting maroon kits in the Saturday encounter to honour the iconic football club Mohun Bagan — who are also owned by the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group. They currently sit at the third spot on the IPL 2023 points table, tied on 15 points with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), with a victory all but confirming their place in the knockouts.

Should Chennai lose their final league game, against Delhi Capitals in Delhi in the afternoon clash of the Saturday double-header, Lucknow could actually finish second with a victory and setup a Qualifier 1 clash against defending champions and table leaders Gujarat Titans (GT).

Kolkata, on the other hand, are seventh on the points table with 12 points from 13 outings and a Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0.256 that could hinder their progress into the knocks despite a victory on Saturday.

Not only do they have to defeat Lucknow by a huge margin to go level with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI), they will also have to hope both MI and RCB lose their final league fixtures, against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and GT respectively, on Sunday for them to occupy the fourth spot.

Premier League: Ben Mee's header helps Burnley register win over Crystal Palace

Ben Mee marked his 300th league appearance for Burnley by clinching a 1-0 victory at Crystal Palace on Monday and keeping his team in an unexpected push for European qualification. A three-year wait for a goal ended for Mee with a header from Ashley Westwood’s free kick in the 62nd minute, moving Burnley up to eighth in the English Premier League — seven points from the Champions League places with six games to go. Burnley was without Jay Rodriguez — the match-winner against Watford on Thursday — and due to a lack of options Sean Dyche could replace him with only defender Erik Pieters. “Coming into the night with a depleted squad, with only one senior boy on the bench, and playing like we did tonight, it shows the character, it shows we’re together," Mee told Amazon Prime. “To get a goal is nice. I’ve had chances cleared off the line or good saves so it’s nice to finally get one in. "It wasn’t a great ball from Westy (Westwood), it wasn’t what we worked on but you’ve got...

England vs New Zealand: Joe Root aims for Black Caps and India sweep ahead of Ashes

Joe Root believes there will be no better way for England to prepare to regain the Ashes in Australia later this year than by completing a home clean sweep of New Zealand and India. The England captain will lead his side in the first of a two-match series against New Zealand at Lord's on Wednesday, with five more Tests against India before the English season is finished. India, top of the Test rankings, and second-placed New Zealand will contest the inaugural World Test Championship final at Southampton, southern England, later this month. England, and many of their supporters, have long given the impression that matches against arch-rivals Australia are the only Tests that really count, with everything else a 'warm-up'. But such a viewpoint was labelled "limited, narrow and delusional" by former England captain Mike Atherton in The Times on Tuesday. Root, however, saw no conflict between England's short and long-term goals. "There's going to b...
